At Accenture, I led a large, distributed team of UX designers while serving as lead designer on client and internal product work.
I was responsible for UX strategy and execution, managing and developing my team, working directly with clients, supporting sales, and leading internal PPES product initiatives.
Leading client UX.
I led projects from research through prototype.
We interviewed stakeholders to understand the business goals, constraints, and assumptions behind the project, then interviewed direct users to understand their needs and how they were actually using the product.
We mapped customer journeys, identified pain points and opportunities, defined workflows, wireframed solutions, tested and iterated on them, and moved the strongest direction into visual design and interactive prototypes.
I led client sessions, presented the work, set the UX direction, and worked directly with the designers responsible for delivering it.
Building the team.
My team was remote and distributed across different client accounts.
I met with each designer weekly to review work, solve project and client challenges, provide feedback, and support their professional development.
I also ran a weekly team session designed to keep everyone connected to the larger UX team. We did design exercises, critiques, creative challenges, shared work from different accounts, and explored new ideas and approaches together.
Winning and expanding accounts.
I joined sales and account teams when UX was part of a new opportunity or could add value to an existing engagement.
My role was to explain what the UX process would look like, how research could reduce assumptions, what we could learn from customers, and how UX would improve the product being built.
I presented our approach directly to prospective and existing clients and helped win new UX work and expand existing contracts.
Building products inside Accenture.
I also led internal PPES product initiatives.
These projects followed the same process as our client work: stakeholder and user interviews, journey mapping, concept development, workflows, wireframes, iteration, visual design, and prototypes.
We used the prototypes to demonstrate the product, validate the experience, and make the case for further investment.
Several of the products I worked on secured internal funding to continue development.
Still hands-on.
Even while managing a large team, I continued doing the work myself.
I interviewed users. Mapped journeys. Built wireframes. Worked through flows. Designed interfaces. Created prototypes. Presented to clients. Reviewed my team's work. Helped sell engagements. And developed new product ideas inside Accenture.
